The Slovak national team had an extremely successful performance at this year's European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). From the point of view of point gain, our team was placed in a beautiful 5th place out of 37 participating European countries.
We could be rightly proud of our girls' results in the previous years of EGMO, but this time the girls performed even better. They improved the medal balance from last year (gold and three bronzes).
The excellent Eliška Macáková (Private Gymnázium CENADA, Bratislava, 4th grade) confirmed her role as the favorite and won a gold medal again after last year (36 points), Lucia Chladná (Gymnázium Grösslingová, Bratislava, 3rd grade) won a silver medal after last year's bronze (23 points), Alica Dományová (Gymnázium Grösslingová, Bratislava, 4th grade) won a bronze medal (20 points) after last year's bronze, although this time with a higher score. And the youngest member of our team Hana Kalábová (ŠpMNDaG, Bratislava, 2nd grade) did not leave without a medal either and successfully reached for the bronze medal (14 points).
The leaders of our representation were Marián Poturnay and Martin Melicher. Ákos Záhorský and Michal Pecho were also members of our expedition, who took on the role of coordinators in correcting the competition solutions.
A bonus of this year's EGMO was also the fact that one of the used competition problems was from Slovakia (similar to last year). Its author is our most successful problem creator for national and international math competitions, Patrik Bak.
